Working IN or ON Your Business
27 Apr 10
You spend time working IN your business, but how often do you spend quality time working ON your business?
When the doors open for business each day and the phone begins to ring, all those good intentions to concentrate on "planning the next marketing strategy", "sorting out a website" and 'writing that press release" go out the window! Although these things might not seem crucial to the everyday running of the business, in the long term they really can make the difference between a business that succeeds, and one that fails.
For many people who run small businesses, time, or the lack of it, is the most common hurdle preventing people from working ON their business. Often people find they don't have the time to educate themselves and keep abreast of the latest and greatest online and offline marketing techniques, let alone write an entire marketing strategy or create a website from scratch!
When a lot of small businesses start out, they are very conscious of not spending any more money than they absolutely need to. This often means people wrestle with tasks such as doing their own bookkeeping late into the night and on weekends, in order to keep the accounts up to date. Although people are often aware that they don't enjoy doing these types of chores, they sometimes don't appreciate how much quicker (and better!) a professional could have done the task for them.
How long do you think it would take you to write a press release? How long would it take you to create a media list to distribute the press release effectively? Now consider what you could have been doing with the 'down time' you spent to complete these tasks, and work out how much money you could have been making if you had used the time more productively, concentrating on your strengths.
"Time is money". So if you would like to spend quality time working ON your business, save more money, get more bang for your marketing buck, or all of the above, consider hiring a professional.
